Nikki's ASAP Statement

This is one of the moments that I wanted to hug Nix real tight.

This birthday prod is indeed a mix of all emotions. I watched this past 6am today, and I found myself in tears. Nikki is a wonderful person who deserves a wonderful life. She is fulfilling her dreams one step at a time and the people around her is very supportive in every step. From being a commercial model, she became a tv personality, a singer, a VJ, and a theater actress.

I am glad that my chinito crush, Chino Lui Pio is one of her closest friend. Myx life is fun life. I wish Nikki to have many more years in Myx. She is an awesome VJ, I know, you know. :)

A big thanks to the theater production who see and believe in Nikki's talent. She didn't fail you, right?! I hope she'll have more plays to perform. Nikki as Elle Woods and Charity and Sonia is remarkable.

Nikki has also turned to be one of the brilliant drama actress. She is open to learn everything about the craft and that is truly a dedication. She has put all the passion and heart to the previous projects and many will be glad to see her again in a drama role. Be ready for Maria Mercedes, Nixters! :)

I'm happy also for Nix because she have real friends in the showbiz industry. A support and love from the people in same industry you work for is way too important. Being in the same business makes them understand how life is, and the ups and downs in it. I'm glad she has friends from behind the camera.

As much as I fangirl a lot, Nikki is a fan of many artists too. Ms. Lea Salonga is one of them and I can feel the giggles and happiness everytime she had an encounter with her. Aaaah, I can relate to her very much. More fan girl moments for you, Nix. Alicia Keys is coming.

The ponytail dance is fun filled. She's very gorgeous in the dance floor. And of course, the singing is undeniably superb.

All the things in the video is just heartwarming, and positive, and inspiring that I have to blog about it. I am very proud of you, Ate!

To the bestest friends ever, Iya Poks and Shaina Dowr, a huge, huge thanks. The true meaning of friendship is what you made us see and feel. I admire how you cheer her up, and stand by her in the toughest time. Happy days are coming your way. :) Celebrate friendship forevah!

I pray that Nikki's dream "to be whole again" will come true. Like what I said to Nikki in one message, "Your laughter and smile is contagious. Be happy everyday! :)"

Nikki Gil on MMK

After Nikki Gil's Apoy sa Dagat performance as young Odessa, we've heard follow up requests from people who wants to see more of her in drama projects. I watch Apoy sa Dagat up to date and still get astound when they flashback the young Odessa scenes. We mostly see Nikki as bubbly and lively girl, nonetheless, she proves to us that she can be genuinely amazing on acting roles. Let's not forget her outstanding performance in Mundo Man ay Magunaw and other past roles in Nagsimula sa Puso, Pieta, The Red Shoes, and many more.

When Nikki announced that she'll be having a MMK (Maalaala mo Kaya) episode, her fans got too thankful and too excited. Some did their own promotions, some had exchange of exciting conversations, and some did their countdown to 7:30pm of June 22nd.

The wait is over then. I bet some of Nixters/Nillys opened their television and watch Wansapanataym so they won't miss the start of MMK. And I bet they are all glued from the time Ms. Charo said "Dear Charo" until the end when the most awaited title was flashed.

The story revolve around the relationship of sisters named Precy, the eldest, and Agnes, the youngest. The setting is in a province wherein the residents do farming for a living. Being in a big family, Precy is responsible enough as a breadwinner. She love and protect her family, she is brave and sacrificial. What is touching about the story is the strong and happy bond of sisters Precy and Agnes. They are usually together in the river where Precy do the laundry, and Agnes always teases her by asking permission to play then being out of Precy's sight in a few. Precy will panic and Agnes will appear on her sister's back, embracing her. That moment was the time when you wanted to hug your siblings, too.

Precy met Lando, a landowner who owns a house and a carabao. They went thru the courting stage, became magnobyo, and eventually got married. It was painful when the sisters talk about letting go of each other, as Precy has to go to another chapter of her life with her husband.

Precy and Lando had their children, 1 boy and 1 girl. Precy became a housewife who takes good care of her family. However, she still worries about the family she left. There are times when her mother visits their house and borrows money from Lando. A big fight happened between the couple when Lando throws the money to Precy’s mother as sign of his anger. Lando was pissed off because he thinks that Precy’s family is still dependent on them. To Precy’s defense, her family works for Lando’s land in return, and remembers Lando’s promise that they will still help them even if they have their own family. Precy decided to work again in farm so she can help her mother and siblings yet it became the reason of another fight with Lando.

Due to poverty, Precy asks Lando if Agnes can stay at their home and provide for her studies. Lando is okay with it and become too nice to his wife’s sister. However, another challenge arises to Precy’s life when their mother got sick. Precy then decided to try applying for a work abroad in order to get a bigger income. She only tells Lando about it few days before she is about to fly to the Middle East. Lando disapproves it yet she still pursues her 2 year contract. She is lucky enough to work for a good employer. She also communicates easily with her family in the Philippines. One day, Precy got bothered when she wasn’t able to talk to her sister for consecutive days. She then found out that her sister got pregnant and the father is his husband. Precy got mad and breakdown.  She went home and still very angry with everybody. She felt betrayed by everyone. Precy went to the province where Agnes and Lando live. She is too mad to see both of them with their daughter, and her youngest child with Lando. She felt so miserable. Precy brings her youngest child back with her.

Precy continued her life in their town, still going through the pain. Her mother talks to her about getting Agnes back with them, as she worries about her current life with Lando. Precy granted her mother’s request and she goes back to bring Agnes with her daughter home. Lando was left alone. It took time for Precy to forgive her  sister. Agnes told Precy that she was just forced and blackmailed by Lando that’s why she got pregnant.  It was another scene in the river that gave the way for the sisters to reconcile. It was very heart warming and was probably my third teary eyed moment as I watched the story.

In a conversation, Agnes admits to Precy that she loves Lando. The story ended when Agnes decided to go back to Lando’s life together with their daughter. Precy moved on and find the heart to forgive and heal the wound. At the end it will still be as simple as “dahil magkapatid kayo.”

Nikki once again showcases her acting prowess. That was one proud fan moment for me. Nikki has this sincere emotion that affects the viewers. There are many drama shows but only few can make you cry physically and inside. This “Ilog” episode by MMK is worth the watch, not time wasting, and definitely taught us a lesson. Congratulations also to Nikki Bagaporo, Matt Evans, and co-actors who did well in their acting. To their directors and everyone behind the scenes, my admiration is with you guys also. I guess all it takes are genuine actors, unusual yet real story, good timeslot, and appreciative viewers.

We will definitely watch out for more projects for Nikki Gil. A primetime teleserye would be great.

Congratulations Nikki for the trending topic and the highest viewers rating over the weekend. :) You're a star shining in a bright light. :)

The Delightful Ten: They’re Playing Our Song

I am an excited, happy fan girl when I found out that Nikki Gil will star in the newest project of 9 Works Theatrical. I am truly delighted when they announced that They’re Playing Our Song, a hit musical comedy will be staging in RCBC on the love month of 2013. I’ve seen the success of Sweet Charity, and I knew TPOS (without biased) will be trending also.

I am very grateful to be invited in the press night of TPOS. This means I’m gonna be among the first ones who can watch the show which happens before their first opening night. I really wish I had this media related career, doing plays, concerts, and movie reviews, and the perks of watching those for free.

I have listed here my favorite moments on They’re Playing Our Song.

1.  Sonia’s Fashion. This adds to the comedic scenes in the story. All praises to wardrobe team for coming up with brilliant (but do not copy except in costume parties) Sonia dresses. I really adore the pink blazer and long skirt during the first scene and the red riding hood costume she wore.

2.  Sonia’s Personality. I was laughing the whole time because of Sonia’s witty, indecisive, adventurous, and overly-attach-to-Leon attitude. Her being fun-loving inspires us to become optimistic in life. Her indecisiveness reminds me of waking-up-in-the-morning-is-such-a-hard-thing-to-do. We all have this alarm clock snooze moment and say 5 more minutes, or 10, and so on. It’s funny how she changes schedule easily and not following it either. Sonia as adventurous woman and a dreamer is an inspiring one. This reminds me of the saying “Seize the day” and “Live while were young”. Lastly, her love-hate-love relationship with Leon are the scenes to laugh about also.

3.  Vernon’s Personality. A successful composer who criticized Sonia’s songwriting. One of the scenes I won’t forget must be the Sonia’s lyrics evaluation. That moment when she picked Fallin’ as the perfect song, and the song that he like because of few parts only. I adore his patience for Sonia, his journal recording that I found cute too, and the dancing gracefully scenes. Oh and his love for Sonia that made me say aaaaaaaw.

4.  The Props/Stage. I love love the wonderful stage. The few props didn’t look awkward. The circular, rotating stage is an excellent idea, as they get the back portion done for the next scene. The road trip scene must be my favorite props performance, wherein they insert road signs while the stage is rotating which make driving looks real. I like Vernon’s home, Sonia’s home, the mistaken cottage room, the disco, the hospital, and all. Just lovely.

5.  The Songs. This musical play is a feel good one, because of the songs perfect for the plot. The story of the composer and songwriter revolves around making music and making it big in the industry. Nonetheless, the most meaningful thing that happened is the love that blossoms as they work together as musicians.

6.  The Leon. The very popular Leon. I have love and hate him too. I love him because he made Sonia happy and Sonia made us happy too when she talks about him. I hate him though because he broke Sonia’s heart and he still enters to scene when Sonia and Vernon is happily together.  I guess it’s nice that they don’t include Leon in the cast. We’ve all had in our imagination of Leon’s face and physical look. And when the phone rings, it reminded us of Leon. Hihi

7.   The Voices. The soul voices of Vernon and Sonia are fascinating too. The boy and girl group has contributed fun, excitement, and lively ambiance. They sing and dance beautifully and stand out individually, too.

8.  The Cast. It’s my first time to watch a theater show with 8 roles only. Some might find it boring, but this one is perfect. To think that this one is a musical, a big production is expected. However, 9WT didn't make it wrong when they've decided to stage TPOS, revolving around Sonia’s solo, Vernon’s solo, and just background voices. This made me proud of Nikki and Lorenz too, because it is definitely no rest for their voice during the almost 3-hour play.

9.   Elle, Charity, Sonia. During the press night, Nikki was asked how she’d differentiate the roles of Elle, Charity, and Sonia because basically all roles portray a witty lady. Nikki says she create 3 column table and listed the personalities of 3 ladies. There she found out how she will not mingle the 3 characters. I’ve watch Legally Blonde and Sweet Charity, and I must say that Nikki has interprets Sonia’s personality in her own way, in her own style, uniquely.

10.   The Piano. The significance of piano in the play is the one I noticed also. A very important instrument for Vernon, the musician. It was his bestfriend while waiting patiently for Sonia, and when Sonia finally came, it’s their pal at work. And the little piano Sonia gave to Vernon while he is in the hospital. The piano keys in the stage background is amusing too.

I am really proud and glad because Nikki was given the opportunity to perform on theater stage again. Looks like she's following the path of her idol, Ms. Lea Salonga. Yey. On her own way, Nikki will showcase her acting, singing, and dancing prowess as she portrays the role of Sonia Walsk in They're Playing Our Song. After Legally Blonde and Sweet Charity, I'm too excited to see how They're Playing Our Song will be different. I remember the tears of joy I cried when I watched Nikki as Elle and Charity. I'm sure TPOS is bigger, brighter, and better. Nikki, certainly have learned a lot during her journey to being at her best as theater actress. It's really fulfilling when you work hard and when you love your job. :-) Break a leg, Ate Niks!

They're Playing Our Song is a musical with a book by Neil Simon, lyrics by Carole Bayer Sager, and music by Marvin Hamlisch.
In a story based on the real-life relationship of Hamlisch and Sager, a wisecracking composer finds a new, offbeat lyricist, but initially the match is not one made in heaven. The two undergo a series of trials and overcome a number of hurdles before finding true love by the final curtain.
They're Playing Our Song is essentially a two-character show. Vernon and Sonia are the sole characters on stage; each character has a three-person Greek chorus acting as their inner voices, and there are no big production numbers.

Act I
Top pop music composer Vernon Gersch, hoping to find a new collaborator, meets offbeat Sonia Walsk, who has already had some success writing lyrics and is in awe of his accomplishments, at his luxury Manhattan apartment. She is surprised that his Oscar is so light, and Vernon quips, "They're chocolate inside." He is aloof and focused, while she is disorganized and distracted, but Vernon has already written music to one of Sonia's lyrics, and they decide to forge ahead. Sonia, frazzled by her break up with lover Leon, arrives a day late for their first work session. When they begin, she tells Vernon they should get to know each other on a personal level in order for their work to gel, and they decide to have dinner at "Le Club."
Sonia, who has been trying to ease Leon's anguish, is late yet again, and the evening begins badly. She and Vernon argue, then dance in an effort to calm down. The two settle down to enjoy the evening, and they hear their own songs being played over the sound system. Another work session, in which the two really don't listen to each other, follows, but Vernon convinces Sonia to join him for a romantic weekend at a Long Island beach house. The trip to the island in Vernon's small sports car is fraught with engine trouble, calls to Leon, and arguments. They finally arrive at the house, but a phone call from Leon threatens the romantic mood. Determined to concentrate on Vernon, Sonia tells Leon that she can't help him and hangs up.
Act II
It's a week later and Vernon is suffering from insomnia. Sonia manipulates her way into his apartment by telling him she has no place to stay since Leon is back living at her place. Sonia and Vernon's romance and collaboration seems successful for a while, but the relationship begins to crumble because of her inability to send her ex-boyfriend away. Also, away from his piano, Vernon is a bundle of neuroses and unable to express his deepest feelings. After some psychologizing about the difficulties of living and working together, the pair split up at a recording session.
A few months later, while Vernon is in a Los Angeles hospital, Sonia arrives unexpectedly with a tiny red child's piano as a get-well gift. Months later, both have separately come to the realization that, despite their differences, they are better together. Vernon arrives at Sonia's apartment in New York to tell her that he wants to try again. She agrees, and they reconcile with a kiss.

UNIQLOving

I am the happiest when I discover that Nikki will be endorsing a new famous clothing brand. And the happy feeling gets double when I found out that Chris Tiu is promoting the same brand. If you browse my blog, you'll knew how much I love these celebrities. I immediately google the brand and hit like, click follow, and check the website. So everybody is excited and talking about Uniqlo. I found out that it is a popular store from Japan that caters to all kind of people of different genre.

To my excitement, I booked the launch day in my schedule planner. For the sake of meeting Chris Tiu, catching up with Nikki Gil, and the very reason is to support them. My plan failed, though. On June 13th, they held a pre-launch show. I should've known earlier, I should've come. There are celebrities who came to watch and shop, Chino Lui Pio, Aldred, and my dearest Chris with fellow endorsers, Iza Calzado and Chito Miranda. Oh well, I still have June 15th that will save the disappointment. Until the night before, I realize that the launch happens on a morning. Of course naman, store opening is mall hours, ang slow ko dun no. So again, I didn't had the chance to see Nikki, who attend the ribbon cutting event.

The day after, I finally visit the store. I am amazed with the long line of shoppers packed in the 2nd floor of SM Mall of Asia. It took me an hour before I entered. I am stunned with the varieties of clothes available, I don't know where to start. My eyes are glowing, my hands want to grab a lot, my body wants to fit all the stuffs. If only I have enough cash. Anyhow, I am very happy with my good buys, Laura Ashley top, jacket, and denim pants. I am a happy shopper and I am definitely going back to Uniqlo.
